Opening an Israeli bank account as a new oleh
Open your Israeli bank account in your first days. Misrad HaKlita pays your sal klita into it, and it can only pay into an active account, so you make a first deposit when you open it. Your Teudat Oleh is enough ID if your Teudat Zehut is not ready yet.
Based on Nefesh B'Nefesh guides. Reviewed 27 Oct 2026.
The order things happen
What to bring to the branch
For a joint account, every holder comes in person, each with their own foreign tax ID.
- Teudat Oleh. Bring your Teudat Zehut too if you have it. The Teudat Oleh alone should be enough.
- Note of Future Bank Account. The form from the airport. The bank stamps it for Misrad HaKlita.
- A first deposit. Cash or a cheque, so the account is active.
- Foreign tax ID. Your Social Security number if you are a US citizen, or your tax number from your home country.
At the branch you also sign forms that say where you pay tax and that the money is yours. US citizens fill in a W-9 form.

Set up the rest

What it costs
- Olim benefits. Banks often cut or waive fees for new olim for a set time. The time and the terms differ by bank.
- Basic track (maslul basisi). A simple account with a price capped by the Bank of Israel at ₪10 a month. A 2026 reform adds more actions for the same cap, in full by July 2027.
Moving money from abroad
To receive a wire, give the sender your IBAN (in Hebrew, mispar zahav). A transfer can take several days. For a large sum, tell the bank before you send it. Banks can ask where the money comes from, and a transfer can wait until you answer.

Questions
Can I open an account before aliyah?
Ask the bank you want. Some banks say they start the process before you land. Either way, plan to finish it at a branch after you arrive.
Can I use a digital-only bank?
Check with the bank first. Digital banks have often not accepted US citizens. A branch of a large bank is the safe choice for your first account.
Can you open the account for me?
No. You go to the branch and sign in your own name. We prepare the documents, book the meeting and follow up after.
Can you help with US tax questions?
No. We tell you which form the bank asks for. For FATCA or US tax filing questions, talk to a tax adviser who works with US citizens in Israel.
Hand us the bank paperwork.
Twenty minutes, free. We look at your documents, your family and your timing.
Olim Landed is a private, paid service. We are not a bank, Misrad HaKlita or Nefesh B'Nefesh, and we do not give tax or financial advice. You can always do this yourself.
